The Gran Turismo franchise has been a staple of the PlayStation series ever since its first release on the original PlayStation way back in 1999. But even though the game started out as an experiment by creator Kazunori Yamauchi, it has become one of Sony’s longest-running and most successful IPs and continues to have record sales numbers.

So it’s not surprising that Sony would continue making titles in the series, but what we didn’t expect was that the company could be gearing up to release Gran Turismo 7 before the PlayStation 5! And here’s why...

Introduction

Sony's latest video game, Gran Turismo Sport, has been heralded as one of their best installments in the series. Now, it seems that Sony is planning on releasing a new version of GT7 for its next console, PS5.

The company has been rumored to be working on this new console for years now and analysts believe that Sony is finally ready to reveal what they've been working on with this new console. So far, Sony has yet to confirm or deny these claims but with an announcement expected in late 2018 or early 2019, it's only a matter of time before we find out if they are true.

What We Know So Far

The PlayStation 5 has been rumored for a while now, and in recent months it seems to have become more of a reality. A lot of people are wondering what we know about it so far, so let's take a look at what we know so far. 

1. The PlayStation 5 is most likely going to be released next year.

2. It will be backwards compatible with games from the PlayStation 4, as well as games from previous generations such as the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 .

In addition, it is speculated that the console will support 8K resolution, which would make sense given Sony's investment in 8K televisions over the past few years. In terms of pricing, we still don't know how much this new console might cost but some rumors point towards $500. If this turns out to be true then you can expect that price tag to increase when there are certain bundle deals available or specific bundles offered by Sony.

The Possibilities

There are a lot of possibilities as to what Gran Turismo 7 could be. It could be an expansion pack for Gran Turismo Sport, or it could just be the next game in its own right. One thing is for sure, though: If Gran Turismo 7 does exist and it's coming out on the PS5, then we're going to need to prepare our wallets. But with any luck, it will be worth the wait and cost! The PlayStation 5 may have all the power needed to fully bring this vision of Gran Turismo to life.

Plus, if you plan on buying a PlayStation 5 console anyway and there is no upcoming price drop then you can consider that your investment into owning this new installment.  one can't help but think that maybe there would have been some hint that something was up during Sony's E3 press conference when they had some live racing footage playing on the screens throughout their event? Was it for Gran Turismo? Perhaps we'll find out soon enough when Sony officially releases information about what's next from their end.
