Just Leaving Twitter HQ Code: How to Be a Better Programmer
Twitter HQ
Take shortcuts. You'll always need something else in the future and you'll have to come back, but if you take the time now, it will save you time in the long run. Don't be afraid to use other people's code (or even code you don't understand) as long as it's well documented. Just remember that nothing is perfect, so don't be afraid to edit anything and make it your own.
Above all else, Twitter HQ is your friend. There are probably a lot of things you can do on your computer that are more fun than programming, but there's no substitute for doing what you love. And this isn't some platitude--every single programmer who works here feels like they're in exactly the right place.
For any newbies who want to become programmers at Twitter, my advice would be to take up a part-time job at McDonalds until they give you an interview. Trust me, by the end of six months of McDonalding, we'll hire you because we know how hard it was for them to get you those skills.
Automate everything
Here are some steps you can take today to start automating your Twitter account and make it easy for you. First, create an automated DM for when you leave the office or have something else going on that would prevent you from being available at all times. Once someone replies, just add them to the list of people who can tweet for you.
Next, develop an automated tweet so your followers know what's happening without constantly checking in with Twitter feeds throughout the day. Lastly, set up an automated reply on @ mentions that doesn't require much effort on your part by responding with a short thank-you message or link to another relevant post.

Test your code
Hi, I'm starting my first coding project! I am going to make a program that shows you what it's like at Twitter HQ. When you go through the doors, there is this really cool painting on the wall. There are so many people working here and they are all sitting in these really neat cubicles. We walked by the cafeteria and saw that the food looked really good.
I can't wait until we get back so I can try some of it! We passed by this one guy who was typing on his computer and he seemed really focused on whatever he was working on. He didn't even look up when we were standing right next to him! It's crazy how much work they do here everyday; it seems like they're never done!
