Just Leaving Twitter HQ Code: How to Be a Better Programmer
Twitter HQ
Writing clean code is important if you want to be a better programmer. There are many benefits of writing clean code, but the main reason is that it makes your job easier because it's easier for someone else to look at and understand what you're doing. When you write clean code, other people can also contribute more easily and quickly, which helps grow your project faster.
Twitter HQ has some awesome resources that can help teach people how to write cleaner code. One of them is called Clean Coder and was written by Uncle Bob Martin, who created the Agile Manifesto.
Follow the style guide
I'm leaving Twitter HQ code. It was an incredible experience, and I learned so much in the 3 months I've been here. I'll miss all my new friends, and they'll miss me too. But it's time for me to move on, and that means it's time for you to learn how to be a better programmer! My first piece of advice is to follow the style guide.
Take this example of how not to write code:
@twitter() twitter() twitter() I know what you're thinking, But Tomás, there are two Twitter functions! You're right, but remember that the only acceptable use of the @ sign is when referencing another person or company. And if we do want to refer back to Twitter (or any other function), we can just put parentheses around it like this: @(Twitter) twitter(). It's best practice as well as good manners.
The next thing I want you all to remember is which pronouns can go in front of each other without being confused with another word.
Know the language
I'm leaving Twitter HQ code and I couldn't be more excited. The company has been my home for the past five years and I'll always remember the people, culture, and friendships that make up this awesome place.
To those who will remain, thank you for everything! To those who are just arriving, I can't wait to see what you create! It's so important that we have new talent joining the team at Twitter and continuing on our mission of giving everyone the power to create and share ideas with others in their own voice.
